Sir Alex Ferguson Returns To Manchester United After Talks With Chief Executive Richard Arnold

Ferguson, along with former CEO David Gill, former United captain Bryan Robson and current director of football John Murtough have been included in a think tank set up by Arnold so that he can count on their vast experience on all aspects of the Old trafford club.

This new role will give Ferguson the most influence since he retired as manager nearly 10 years ago.

The five men met on Tuesday at Carrington and the meeting was believed to be the first in a series of regular meetings involving the group.

sportsmail reported in November that Ferguson was keen on the opportunity of having more input at the club after he was consulted on a few occasions by former boss Ole gunnar Solskjaer.

At the age of 80, and after recovering from a dangerous brain haemorrhage in 2018, he can no longer have an active role at the club.

But club CEO Arnold feels it is important to take advantage of Ferguson’s football knowledge. During his 26 and a half years at the Old trafford helm, Ferguson led United to a massive haul of 38 trophies.

Gill spent 16 years at United, including 10 years as CEO. The 64-year-old is currently on UEFA’s executive committee and is also treasurer of European football’s governing body. He is also the chairman of the finance and compensation committee.

Club legend Robson has been working as an ambassador for the club for the last years.

It is believed that the three club legends will advise Arnold on a range of different issues within the club. Including the redevelopment of Old trafford and Carrington and more importantly the club’s relationship with its fans.

They will for sure have a say in football matters too, alongside director of football Murtough.

Ferguson’s return to Carrington happened on the same day that Christian Ronaldo arrived for crunch talks with the club regarding his future.

A smart move by Arnold to have Ferguson in the building as he has had a huge influence on the Portuguese’s career.

Ronaldo shocked the club to its core last month by expressing his desire to leave Old trafford.

United are adamant that the five time balloon d’Or winner i not for sale and new manager Erik ten Hag has also said that he has Ronaldo in his plans for the upcoming season.
