UK heat wave, Mars robots and endangered tiger cubs | The best images of science this week

This week, the UK experienced a record heat wave that also affected vast areas of Europe, with several damaging bushfires that affected many countries including France, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy. Temperatures in the UK reached 40°C in several places, while in Portugal a temperature of 47°C was recorded.

In happier news, three critically endangered Sumatran tiger cubs made their first public appearance this week at London Zoo. Tigers, which are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals, are so far doing well.
